2019 Performers
Ensemble-in-Residence:
The Hausmann Quartet
Thanks to generous grant support from the Del Mar Foundation, the Hausmann Quartet served as Ensemble-in-Residence for the 2019 season of DMICS.
Well-known to Del Mar audiences through their appearances on the Del Mar Foundation’s First Thursdays concert series, the Hausmann Quartet is one of Southern California’s finest chamber ensembles. We were thrilled to be able to welcome them to Del Mar for an exciting week of music making!
The Hausmann Quartet has established itself as an integral part of the cultural life of Southern California since its arrival in San Diego in 2010. As faculty Artists-in-Residence at San Diego State University they teach and organize the chamber music program, engage in interdisciplinary collaborations with other departments and visit local schools for concerts and clinics on behalf of the School of Music and Dance. Their latest endeavor is Haydn Voyages: Music at the Maritime, a quarterly concert series on a historic ferry boat exploring the string quartet repertoire through Haydn’s quartet cycle. They pioneered interactive programs for students, adult amateur musicians and local seniors and homeless as Ensemble-in-Residence at Mainly Mozart with support from the Irvine Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts and ACMP. Founded in the summer of 2004 at Lyricafest, they have recently been hailed as “Excellent” by U-T San Diego and “an accomplished young foursome with a luscious sound and an experimental bent” (Repeat Performances), and maintain an active performance schedule throughout North America and Asia. The members of the Hausmann Quartet are violinists Isaac Allen and Bram Goldstein, violist Angela Choong, and cellist Alex Greenbaum.

Scott Worthington is a double bassist and composer based in Los Angeles. Active as a chamber, recording, orchestral, and solo artist, his work as a performer has been called “masterful and transfixing” by NewMusicBox.
He has released three albums to critical acclaim as a performer-composer, including his 2015 album Prism, named one of The New Yorker’s top ten classical albums of the year. His 2018 release, Orbit, appears on the French label IIKKI. Engaged in multiple arenas of contemporary music, Worthington’s other activities span concert production, electronic music, and audio engineering. In 2014 he co-founded wasteLAnd, a concert series praised by the L.A. Times as “our musical pioneers,” serving as executive director through its first five seasons. As an electronic musician, Worthington has performed and coded performance materials for music by composers ranging from Lucier to Stockhausen.
