2023 Season Overview
The fourth season of the Del Mar International Composers Symposium showcased innovative programs of exciting new music, with even more of the finest performers based in the San Diego area as well as nationally-acclaimed guest artists. Central to it all was the opportunity to interact with even more of the finest composers of new classical music from around the world.

- DMICS 2023 season ran from July 31 - August 13, in venues around Del Mar, including the Del Mar Town Hall and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

- Polina Nazaykinskaya and Joseph Sowa returned as composition faculty, and Texu Kim joined the program as well. Other composers presented on DMICS concerts included James Díaz, Angélica Negrón, Michael Remson, and two important premieres by Domenic Salerni and Konstantin Soukhovetski, who presented the first West Coast performance of his “Pride Suite.”
- The innovative DMICS opera workshop returned with a continuation of the grand opera by Polina Nazaykinskaya and Konstantin Soukhovetski, “Tear Down This Wall,” as well as a presentation of Jordan Kuspa’s new opera in progress based on Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest.”
- A select group of student composers from as far afield as Australia, China, and Colombia joined DMICS faculty for a workshop to develop their compositional skills alongside our esteemed guest artists.
