Del Mar International Composers Symposium
For the first time, DMICS welcomed a select group of talented composition students to work alongside our Composition Fellows and performing artists. Faculty composers Juri Seo and Jordan Kuspa guided DMICS students through the creation of new works and students were able to enjoy working and learning in the beautiful environment of one of California's finest beach towns.

Student Composition Program Highlights:
-
Each composer enjoyed two professional readings of their work by DMICS artists--with time between each reading to allow for revisions and edits. The final readings were professionally recorded and edited for students to use in their composition portfolios.
-
Students had composition lessons with both distinguished faculty composer Juri Seo (Princeton University) and DMICS founder Jordan Kuspa.
-
In addition to working directly with the composition faculty, student composers also worked alongside DMICS Composition Fellows, who acted as mentors and shared their work and expertise with students.
-
All students presented their works in composer forums attended by all DMICS composers.
-
Additional sessions on topics such as career strategies, writing for the voice, and preparing a composition portfolio were offered by DMICS faculty and fellows.
-
DMICS Composers all received a complimentary ticket to a La Jolla SummerFest concert featuring works by Copland, Gabriella Frank, and Caroline Shaw.
-
Though the days were busy, we found time to hike Torrey Pines State Reserve, visit the sea lions at La Jolla Cove, and hang out at the beach.
