2022 Season Overview
The 2022 Del Mar International Composers Symposium brought new music and artists to Del Mar. This year, Hub New Music and the FF Collective joined, and we heard new works from composers. With more composers from around the world and special programs for young composers, this season made it easy for everyone to enjoy and learn about the composing craft.
Overview at a glance:
- DMICS 2022 season ran from August 1-14, in venues around Del Mar.
- For the first time, we invited multiple ensembles-in-residence: Boston-based Hub New Music, newly formed vocal group the FF Collective, and local favorites, the Hausmann Quartet.
- Concerts featured exciting music by a new group of DMICS Composer Fellows, including Robert Honstein, Polina Nazaykinskaya, Omar Surillo, and Nina C. Young.
- In another first, DMICS presented several short operas in collaboration with the FF Collective, including the premiere of A Long Trip, by DMICS founder Jordan Kuspa.
- Our student composition program was also expanded, as fifteen emerging composers honed their craft alongside DMICS composition faculty and fellows.
