The second season of the Del Mar International Composers Symposium will feature innovative programs of exciting new music, more of the finest performers based in the San Diego area, and the opportunity to interact with emerging composers from around the world.

2021 Season Overview:

  • DMICS will be held from August 3-10, 2021, in a variety of venues around Del Mar, with interactive live events and new pre-recorded concert performances.

  • A new cohort of Composition Fellows will present their works and ideas as part of the festival, alongside the music of former DMICS Fellows and also talented student composers.

  • The excellent Hausmann Quartet will return as Ensemble-in-Residence, and all performing artists at DMICS 2021 appear thanks to a generous grant from DMICS' Lead Sponsor, the Del Mar Foundation.

  • Continuing our focus on intimate chamber music, DMICS will expand to include vocal music and contemporary art song, as we are joined by the brilliant soprano Tasha Koontz and pianist Peter Walsh.

  • DMICS will present two exciting concerts of new music, along with interactive panel discussions, presentations by Composition Fellows, and open rehearsals showing the collaborative process between composers and performers.

  • For the first time, DMICS will invite student composers who will have their music workshopped and recorded as part of the festival. Students will receive lessons and mentoring from DMICS Fellows, participate in composition forums and discussions with our guest artists, and experience the inspiring warmth and beauty of Del Mar and San Diego.
